Remembering Your Loved One

This page is intended to provide information for those seeking to remember and honor their loved ones who were cared for at U-M Health. Here, families can learn about various memorial events and opportunities for charitable donations in memory of their loved one. You'll find details on how to participate in specialized memorial services, including the Annual Adult Memorial, Anatomical Donations Memorial, and the Cancer Center Memorial. Additionally, this resource offers guidance on directing memorial donations, whether for patient services, medical research, or specific departments that reflect the values or interests of the departed, with support from the Office of Medical Development.

If you are enduring the profound grief of losing a child or facing the sorrow of a pregnancy loss, please know we are here to extend our compassion and aid. While this page focuses on the loss of an adult, we have dedicated support services for these sensitive situations. For specialized assistance and resources on child and pregnancy loss, we invite you to visit our Grief Support for Child and Pregnancy Loss page.

Memorial Events

Adult Memorial

Annually in May, we host a memorial event remembering adult patients who have passed away during the previous 18 months.

Annual Anatomical Donations Memorial

Annually in September, the Medical School honors those who have made an anatomical donation for study and research purposes.

Cancer Center Memorial

The Cancer Center hosts an annual event in October in memory of patients who died of cancer.

Donate in Their Memory

Making a charitable donation in your loved one's memory can be part of the early planning process, allowing it to be announced in the obituary or during the funeral service. Such donations often reflect your loved one’s values or interests, and you may choose to direct them to a specific area within U-M Health.
