Working together to improve treatment and support.

Established in 2011, the Rogel Cancer Center’s Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC), partners patients and families with members of the health care team to provide guidance on how to improve the patient and family experience. 

Our Mission

To ensure the highest standards of family-centered care in adult cancer care areas of Michigan Medicine.

Our council is comprised of patients, families, clinicians, staff and administrators who serve as a voice for patients and family members. We work together to deliver the highest quality care possible for patients.

Opportunities for Patient and Family Advisory Council Members

 

  • Develop patient and family education and communication materials.
  • Generate new program ideas to benefit patients, family members and caregivers.
  • Enhance ongoing collaboration and cooperation among clinicians, patients and families.
  • Participate in the development and planning of patient and family events.
  • Provide feedback on new facilities and facility renovation.
  • Promote awareness of opportunities and key resources that will help patients and family members navigate through the system.

Who is Eligible?

The Rogel Cancer Center’s Patient & Family Advisory Council is comprised of members who:

  • Have recent experience within the adult cancer areas of Michigan Medicine
  • Provide input fairly and objectively
  • Communicate effectively
  • Offer a patient or family point of view
  • Registered as a Michigan Medicine volunteer
  • Registered as a Cancer Center volunteer
  • We encourage recommendation from your care provider (MD, PA, NP, Therapist)

Members may also need to:

  • Have basic computer and technical skills, such as how to navigate the internet.

Advisors are expected to:

  • Commit to the mission, vision, and values of the Cancer Center
  • Be active in discussions, activities and/or projects
  • Meet timelines
  • Commit to a 24-month term
  • Be available to begin your term in May or October when new member meetings are held

Most cancer PFAC terms are effective for 12 months; however, the Cancer PFAC offers many opportunities to meet diverse interests and time availability.
