Inherited Cardiomyopathy & Arrhythmias

Cardiomyopathy is a disease that affects your heart muscle and the way it pumps blood throughout your body. Arrhythmias are conditions that affect the rhythm of your heartbeat.

Your Michigan Answer for Inherited Cardiomyopathy & Arrhythmias

Finding out that you or a family member has an inherited cardiomyopathy or arrhythmia heart condition can be overwhelming.

Some conditions may be passed down, which often means your whole family will need to be tested. We are here to answer your questions, provide expert care, and make family testing as simple and convenient as possible.

Inherited cardiomyopathy is a group of heart problems that are passed down through families (inherited), making it harder for the heart to pump blood. One common type is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle becomes too thick. Another is dilated cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle becomes weak and stretched.

Arrhythmias are irregular heartbeats. Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (AC) is a rare condition that can affect primarily the left chamber of the heart (LC) or the right chamber (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy or ARVC). Common symptoms include feeling your heart beating too fast, too hard, skipping beats, or fluttering. Fainting and shortness of breath are also common.
