Leukemia Program
Leukemia Program
Our Approach
The Leukemia Program brings together a team of doctors as well as pathologists, advanced practice practitioners, registered nurses and social workers. Each patient is provided with a treatment plan specifically for them and their form of blood cancer.
Most patients are seen in our leukemia clinic located in C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, where clinic and treatment rooms offer a state-of-the-art filtration system specifically to keep immuno-suppressed patients safe.
Who We Treat
Our team treats adults with the following types of leukemia:
Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL)
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
Hairy cell leukemia
Bone marrow failure disorders including myelodysplastic syndrome, aplastic anemia, and other inherited predisposition bone marrow failure disorders
Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and other overlap syndromes
Myeloid / lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia with tyrosine kinase fusions
Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm
Other, rare forms of leukemia
Services
Chemotherapy
Many of our patients will be treated with chemotherapy. Depending on the type of leukemia, the patient may receive their medication with an infusion (IV) or they may have oral medication.Bone Marrow Transplant
For some of our leukemia patients, it may be advisable to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant -- a procedure to replace damaged or destroyed bone marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells.Immunotherapy
For patients under the age of 25 with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), we offer CAR T-cell Therapy. This type of treatment uses the power of your immune cells against B-cell lymphomas.Support for patients and families
The Rogel Cancer Center features Patient Support Services. This program is dedicated to helping those impacted by leukemia with a variety of support, from Art Therapy to Social Work.
