Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology
Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology
For people with a health condition or injury resulting in a change in cognitive function, independence, mood, and/or chronic pain, the Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology Clinic at U-M Health provides evaluation, education, treatment and resources to help patients achieve the highest quality of life possible. We use a multidisciplinary approach to help you feel your best while meeting your individual needs and goals.
Our Approach
As necessary, we work with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech & Language Pathology to address the psychological and cognitive barriers to daily living. We may recommend referral to these services or specific approaches so that patients with cognitive disorders can either relearn basic skills or learn new ways of accomplishing their daily activities. We may recommend the use of assistive devices and work closely with other rehabilitation services to develop strategies for using those devices to maximum benefit. We also provide long-term support, addressing the changing needs of patients as their conditions change over time.

Services
Our services include individual and group counseling, and family counseling and education. As a part of these services, patients and families are also taught about resources or services in their community that may be helpful. Additionally, many of our psychologists and neuropsychologists participate as members of the rehabilitation team, assisting with treatment planning, post-hospital planning, community reentry, and the design of appropriate behavior modification plans, as needed. Our assessment services include psychological and neuropsychological testing and clinical evaluations, including comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning, mood, affect and personality. Evaluation and testing may include:
- A thorough psychological examination
- Baseline assessments to measure improvement or decline
