About
Dr. Hyzy is the Medical Director of the Critical Care Medicine Unit and Co-Chair of the Critical Care Committee at the University of Michigan Hospital. Dr. Hyzy is a graduate of Kenyon College and NYU School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Hyzy’s research interest in thin the intensive care unit including patients with the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, sepsis and respiratory failure. In the Pulmonary Clinic he participated as a Co-Investigator in clinical trials in patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and COPD.
Dr. Hyzy is an active clinician and researcher with multiple publications including serving as editor of a critical care textbook published by Springer and 14 topics to the online medical reference UpToDate.
Areas of Practice
Dr. Hyzy clinical interests include critical care medicine, interstitial lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, COPD and chronic cough.

Research Overview
Dr. Hyzy is an experienced Critical Care trials who has successfully conducted research studies in the areas of ARDS, ventilator associated pneumonia, sepsis and delirium. He has participated in several NIH sponsored clinical trials and is the Project Director and Co-Principal Investigator for the University of Michigan site of the NIH Prevention and Early Treatment of Acute Lung Injury (PETAL) Network.
