Guest Assistance Program

Department of Social Work

The Guest Assistance Program (GAP) is a part of the Department of Social work that assists both adult and pediatric patients with navigation of non-medical needs they may face. Our dedicated social workers problem-solve, research community resources, and assist with the coordination of various needs that arise during medical treatment. We focus solely on barriers to care — things that would keep patients from maintaining treatment or appointments that would impact their health.

Resource Assistance

The Guest Assistance Program (GAP) offers connection to several types of resources for our patients (all based on eligibility) for social needs related to medical care at Michigan Medicine:

  • Liaison with government and community organizations
  • Pharmacy assistance for prescriptions
  • Costs for medications, supplies and equipment
  • Lodging assistance
  • Meal assistance
  • Transportation assistance
  • Durable medical equipment/supplies
  • Parking
  • Food insecurity
  • Wigs/head coverings

Contact the Guest Assistance Program at 800-888-9825 for more information about these resources and others or visit our Guest Assistance Program FAQ page for answers to commonly asked questions.
