The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program has a formal exercise program for people with breathing difficulties. The program consists of education, strength training exercises, and exercise on machines such as treadmills, NuSteps (recumbent stepping exercise machines) and UBE's (for upper body strength). Oxygen saturation, blood pressure and heart rate are monitored while the patient exercises. The program meets twice a week on Monday and Wednesday for exercise sessions of 1-1 1/2 hours each day. Patients who have completed the referred program may continue to exercise in our informal Maintenance Program on Tuesday and Thursday.

The University of Michigan Harmonica Club meets on Tuesdays in the rehab gym. It is open to anyone who has a breathing problem (COPD, asthma, emphysema, etc). Those interested in joining the harmonica club should call the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program 734-998-8723 and ask to be referred to the club's director. Participants must purchase their own harmonica.

The Quest for Breath Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) support group meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm.
