In June 2023, University of Michigan Health earned designation as a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence.
University of Michigan Health is the only center in the state of Michigan to receive designation as a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence.
A Parkinson's Foundation Center of Excellence is an academic medical center with a specialized team of neurologists, movement disorder specialists, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and others who are up to date on the latest Parkinson disease medications, therapies, and research to provide the best care to people living with Parkinson’s disease and their supports.
Every Center of Excellence designation is awarded based on a rigorous application and peer-review process.
Priorities include:
- Large population of patients with Parkinson disease
- Conduct research and/or clinical trials relevant for Parkinson disease
- Provide outstanding team care which includes neurologists with training in movement disorders, nurse/physician assistant, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists
- Promote access to wellness programs and provide educational events for patients and families
