Breast cancer and the treatment of breast cancer can impact a woman’s gynecologic health in a way that deserves distinctive attention by a team with specialized experience in caring for cancer survivors.
University of Michigan Health Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital offers a unique clinic focused on the gynecologic care of breast cancer survivors and women at increased risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer. Our specialists work closely with the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center to ensure a seamless care transition and collaboration among all our care providers.
U-M Health is one of the few health systems in the country that has a clinic specializing in managing the gynecologic health of breast cancer survivors. The clinic’s leadership team is known nationwide for advancing a more thorough understanding of the complete gynecologic care of women with breast cancer as well as women at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer.
Our Services
- Consultation for BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variant carriers
- Consultation for other pathogenic mutation carriers (such as but not limited to: PALB2, CHEK2, ATM, BRIP1, BARD1, CDH1, NF1, RAD51C, RAD51D, RAD50, and STK11)
- Consultation for Lynch syndrome (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2), Cowden's syndrome (PTEN) and Li-Fraumeni (TP53)
- Prophylactic risk-reducing surgical removal of tubes and ovaries for BRCA1 and BRCA2, as well as other pathogenic variant carriers at increased risk for ovarian cancer and for appropriate patients with strong family history of ovarian cancer
- Consultation regarding gynecologic care for breast cancer survivors (specifically related to abnormal bleeding while on tamoxifen, need for surgical ovarian ablation, non-hormonal management of menopausal symptoms and questions regarding contraception in the setting of breast cancer)
- Risk assessment for patients with strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer and discussion of genetic testing
We are a consultative service that provides evaluation and treatment recommendations. Once we establish a treatment plan, we will then work with your primary care provider (PCP) or general OB-GYN provider to establish a long-term treatment plan and follow-up. We do not provide routine gynecologic care.
